SCARY!

Last night Lainy was helping me put the dishes away. (She loves to be helpful that way.) As we were happily working away, I asked her to put something in a drawer. I turned from the sink just in time to see her smash her fingers as she closed the drawer. I hurried to help her get her fingers out of the drawer and scooped her up just as she began to cry. Well, cry is an understatement. She let out an awful wail; the kind that makes me want to cry too.

As I was trying to calm her down, Brad came running into the room with a worried look on his face. I thought he was just coming to make sure she was okay, but instead of inquiring after her, he blurted out: "She hasn't breathed yet".

I pulled Lainy away from around my neck to check on her. I had just enough time to register that her face was completely blue before her eyes rolled back and her body went totally limp.

Brad grabbed Lainy from me, blew in her face and shook her a little. After a few very long, scary seconds, she finally breathed and came back to us.

Holy smokes! My heart is racing just thinking about it again. She's never even come close to passing out when she's been upset before. I hope it never, ever happens again. But, just in case, I'm refreshing my knowledge of infant CPR. Scary, scary, scary...

That is so scary! I don't even know what I would have done in that situation. I'm so glad Lainy is okay. It's scary to think of how easily these little people can get hurt.

I also wanted to say that the swimming class you and Lainy are taking sounds SO fun! I wish there was something like that here.

By the way - we are planning another SLC trip in May or June...it would be fun if you guys could join us again!

oh my goodness. I am so grateful Brad was there for your sake. I hope when something like that happens Brett is home because I'm not sure I could hold myself together.

Wow! That would have been so scary. Its amazing to me that Brad was listening so well and had that realization. How are her fingers?

Wow Traci, I started crying and couldn't read fast enough. I am so grateful that she decided to breath. I have heard of little kids holding their breath when they get hurt and then passing out. My friend was telling me about her son. She said that the dr. just told her that he'd eventually grow out of it. Oh my goodness though Traci, I am so grateful. We sure love you guys. Good luck.

That sounds way scary! She sounds like your brother Jeff. You mom told me that he did that when he got hurt or was throwing fits.

Hey Trace-Braxton used to do that also and he would totally pass out! I remember panicking every time and I would be bawling! The only thing that helped would be to blow on his face and make him take a breath but there were still times when he would just pass out-he is now 2 and hasnt done it in about 4 months so they do grow out of it!
